How do you educate others?

When people ask about or make comments about your skin, how do you respond?

  1. Being that my psoriasis lives on my face, people tend to regard me as a leper when it's bad. They don't look me in the eyes, and are dismissive of me. I am okay with that, because it's them, not me. I don't educate people. I figure if they don't ask, I'm not going to force them to listen to an explanation that they don't want to hear. We are all over the spectrum as to levels of awareness. What are your thoughts on this?

    1. I've learned to not let it bother me as I became an adult period in my early years in junior high school it was very difficult, because I was covered at one point from head to toe. And at that stage in your life is very difficult to deal with especially seeing that at that age you have a lot of other things to deal with to begin with in life. But as time has moved I have learned to deal with it in every manner. It took a lot of discipline and self-control to learn how to block it out. And I also came to find that by being able to block it out it also help to manage my psoriasis. There is no doubt in my mind that there is a correlation here, it makes sense because if something is bothering you all the time like people staring at you because you have psoriasis I could see it physically harm and you in many different respects including the psoriasis spreading even further. By learning to block it out and not let people staring at you hamper your thought process it is one less stress that you are dealing with in life and it's a big stress from what I can recall. So it makes sense I believe that if you can learn to block people out or as I would say smile at the ones that stare at you, then you will only be helping yourself in many different ways

  2. Hi CedarSpirit. Hopefully others will chime in with thoughts on your question. The decision on how and how much to engage people concerning psoriasis is of course an individual one.

    1. That is hard to take if people discriminate you for having a Psoriasis and I hope everyone understands the situation. Others may judge you for having that without even thinking what their going through.
