How My Psoriasis Is Doing With My Biologic Injection

So, I’ve been on my biologic injection for psoriasis for a while now, it must be approaching three years. And, to say I am pleased would be an understatement. I have tried several biologic treatments, and all of them worked to varying degrees. But the current one I am on works very well.

Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t totally clear my condition. I still have patches of psoriasis on my body and I still get flare ups, but I am not getting the outbreaks as severely and as red and angry. The patches that are about are much easier to deal with.

You may need to use other treatment methods

I’ve written previously about coconut oil and can I say, in conjunction with my biologic injection, it works a treat. Every six or so weeks now, I apply coconut oil to my scalp which helps lift the scales and lessen any redness. It also makes the patches less angry and itchy. Because of this, the barber has a much easier time cutting my hair and I feel much better about myself and life in general.

I also apply lotions and moisturisers to my face and other parts of my body. It keeps me feeling fresh and energised, and works well to lessen any itchiness or redness.

The reason I am saying this is that if you’ve been offered a biologic injection or perhaps you’re looking at it as an option, I would say, be prepared to use it with other treatments too. Yes, the one I am on now does work very well, but if you complement it with natural remedies, you might get even better results. At least, that’s what I’ve found out anyhow.

The benefits of this not only mean your skin is clearer, if not mostly clear, but it also is positive for your mind and mental well-being. Having struggled with psoriasis most of my life, I have had a pretty torrid time trying to carve a better attitude out when it comes to how I see and view my condition.

Psoriasis can also have an impact on your mental health

Having a good treatment such as the biologic, together with using coconut oil, moisturizers and lotions has really helped my mental as well as physical health. The condition doesn’t weigh on my mind, I find myself scratching far less and my general outlook is smarter and healthier.

They often say the battle with psoriasis isn’t just with the patches but also with the mind too. And that is definitely true. You will find when you get your condition under control you think more positively and the condition itself doesn’t play such a huge role in your life anymore.

This or That

Does psoriasis impact your social life?

When you’re first diagnosed, you may find your psoriasis takes over your life. It’s everywhere, flakes fall onto everything and it hinders your ability to do certain life activities such as playing sport or meeting friends. But with the right treatment, trust me, you can get past that. The key is to remain hopeful and find the medicine which works for you. Not every treatment will work. I’ve had treatments work and not work, as I outlined at the start, and others which worked but caused me terrible side effects.

So, try not to be despondent and try to persevere through the bad days. There is a brighter outlook on the horizon and you’re not far away from it.

Treatment results and side effects can vary from person to person. This treatment information is not meant to replace professional medical advice. Talk to your doctor about what to expect before starting and while taking any treatment.
