The Fine Print of Alternative Ideas
Fine print, those rows and rows of words at the bottom of most pamphlets, promotions, contracts, sales and the like, the things we end up not reading, as we think we do not have the time. This can often lead to us misunderstanding something or not getting all the information. Over the years there have been moments when I feel that had I read the fine print or done further research I would have gotten more value for what I was trying. I specifically refer to when we try or start a new treatment/idea/supplement to help our psoriasis.
Trying out Turmeric
This was by far the one that had the greatest impact on me. What I read, was told and researched was that turmeric is great for inflammation. So what I did, was stop right there and head off to the closest health store and get myself a daily dose of Turmeric. Never finding it greatly effective I eventually stopped using it. Years later, I read that when turmeric is taken alongside black pepper or better yet, piperine, it absorbs better into the body. Therefore making it way more effective for treating inflammation. Peperine is more helpful as an extract and not in actual black pepper. After I spent some time digging deeper, chatting to some people and asking the experts at the health shop, I found that for me personally, a turmeric capsule with a peperine extract in it is way more effective. If only I had done the research or read the “fine print” I would have been able to gain this benefit a while ago.
Changing your diet
The ever debated, does it make a difference or not? Go gluten free, eat clean, eat keto, the ideas are endless, so are the support groups and plans. There are people who back or debunk each one no matter where you look. It is about what works for you and what is sustainable to your lifestyle. I have all too often heard "I tried eating *insert eating plans here* for a month and with no results I went back to what I was eating." What I have learned is the fine print of changing your way of eating is for me is the following. Two to six weeks is how long it takes my body to shed the old and welcome the new, and not haphazard either. It needs to be consistent, then with time, I start feeling the difference. It takes time to start seeing changes, it is not going to happen in a few days.

So these days, when I get advice or start something new, I am sure to research the best or most effective way for my body to absorb something. Sometimes even knowing the best time of day to do something can help. Also reaching out to my online community really makes a difference as many may have tried the same thing and may have great advice on how to best do or use something. I read the fine print of everything and make sure that I am using it the best way I can.
