Jojoba Oil

Beans, beans, beans! Green beans and coffee beans are my favorite. Then enter the humble, yet amazing jojoba bean, from which the lovely jojoba oil is made.

Contrary to the name, jojoba oil is in fact not an oil, but a liquid wax. Jojoba oil has been used in folklore to treat a variety of ailments. It is also shown to be useful for psoriasis and eczema and has been found to be anti-inflammatory too. This has made it a great option for my skin as the inflammation on my face can get really bad. I do not only use jojoba on my face, but also in most of my beauty products.

Oil is a no-no for my psoriasis

My psoriasis has never allowed me to use oil of any kind. No matter how good it may claim to be, it is a hard no for me. No amount of raw, organic, safe for everyone, or psoriasis-relieving matters when it comes to oils. My psoriasis will allow me to think that it is okay, accepting the application and making me think that maybe this time, I can use oil on my skin. But within a half of an hour tops, the big itch arrives. I do not mean the usually, mind-bending psoriasis itch. I am talking about its big brother.

Due to the oil having had time to soak in and its natural consistency, it is nearly impossible to wash off when I use it. I do however take a hot shower and make sure that I get off what I can.

Finding jojoba oil

It has taken me years to work out what beauty and/or facial products I can use. Having psoriasis on my face has proved to be especially challenging over the years. I do try to stay away from using topical steroids on my face as it never ends well for my skin. Using a face moisturizer one day by chance at a friend's house, the main ingredient was jojoba oil. I only noticed this a while after I had used it and in total panic, I was going to wash it off when I realized that it had not started itching as yet. Lo and behold the big itch never arrived.

Since working out that I am able to use jojoba oil, I have revamped my skin care products and beauty products too. I find it to be very moisturizing and it makes my skin feel healthy and happy. Being able to use a product consistently has been one of my greatest annoyances. This has now passed for the most part and I am so grateful. While these products do not clear my psoriasis or make it magically disappear (I wish!), it does give me a way to look after my skin while not aggravating my psoriasis. This counts in my world.

I have since noted that there are many products that now contain jojoba and I am so excited to try them. I think my new adventure will be trying some jojoba oil on my scalp and see if that brings me any relief. I have read up about it about and some people have experienced relief and even said that it is good for your hair.
