Makeup Brand Laura Geller Receives The First Ever Stamp Of Approval From The NPF
As I scrolled through the internet, I found an article in People Magazine stating that makeup company Laura Geller made the “first psoriasis-safe foundation.”
Laura Geller’s star, the Baked Balance-n-Brighten Color Correcting Foundation, has been recognized by the National Psoriasis Foundation and the National Rosacea Society and received an award from QVC as a customer choice beauty product for 2023.
Why their foundation should be in every skin-cautious shopping cart
The 26-year-old makeup company has been a favorite of celebrities like Kyle Richards and Bethany Franklin for years. With the dermatologist's stamp of approval, it’s easy to see why this gentle yet flawless foundation is a fan favorite.
I contacted Sara Mitzner, VP of Brand Marketing for Laura Geller, to get the scoop on the brand and ask why their foundation should be in every skin-cautious shopping cart.
The National Psoriasis Foundation awarded the Laura Geller Foundation its first-ever Seal of Recognition for a makeup product. I have worked closely with the NPF for years; this recognition is no small feat. So, congratulations. It’s exciting for people with psoriasis to have a skin-friendly product. What was the company's reaction to this?
The company could not be more thrilled! The Baked Balance-n-Brighten Foundation has always been a fan favorite and a hero product for the brand.
Now being the first-ever makeup product to receive the seal of recognition from the National Psoriasis Foundation. Laura is not only empowering existing customers to look and feel their best but has put this confidence-building product on the radar of many others who are looking for solutions but don’t know where to start.
When the product was created, was it created with psoriasis and rosacea patients in mind?
As women over the age of 40 are our target audience at Laura Geller Beauty, we saw this as an opportunity to connect with this growing audience in a more meaningful way.
Over the years, Laura Geller Beauty customers suffering from psoriasis have shared countless reviews about how much they love the product.
The brand took this as an opportunity to officially test the product for psoriasis patients in clinicals, learn that it is safe to use, and give back to a community of beauty lovers that needed extra care.
What do you think separates the LG foundation from other foundations regarding psoriasis?
What separates this foundation from other foundations regarding psoriasis is the formula. Loaded with antioxidants like white tea, which has antioxidant properties, and Centella Asiatica, a medicinal plant, offers a dose of hydration to dry sensitive skin.
What ingredients are in it (or not) that you might not find in run-of-the-mill drugstore concealers?
Something unique about Baked Balance-n-Brighten Foundation is that it contains jojoba seed oil with anti-inflammatory properties.
Anti-inflammatory ingredients tend to help tame chafing and chapping, reduce redness caused by drying, and keep skin calm and comfortable for a flawless finish.
I assume you had some trials with actual patients. If you did, how did they go? What was the response?
The foundation had to go through an evaluation and approval process, which included submitting independently tested scientific data demonstrating that the foundation does not irritate skin and/or joints burdened with psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, severe sensitive skin, or joint mobility limitations.
The foundation was then independently reviewed by a panel of dermatology and rheumatology experts and people with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.
The overall positive response earned the Baked Balance-n-Brighten Foundation the Seal of Recognition, recognizing that it’s safe for daily use for sensitive and severely sensitive skin.
What's also amazing is that it's affordable. I don't need to spend $90 at Sephora to keep my skin healthy and beautiful. I love that. Psoriasis aside, what are your favorite aspects of the foundation? What's a huge selling point for you?
Baked for 24 hours and hand-finished in Italy, my favorite part of this foundation is the easy application of a powder with the benefits of a cream.
The color-correcting swirls of pigments make shade matching a breeze and reviewers can’t get enough, boasting nearly 10,000 five-star ratings on Amazon. The product definitely speaks for itself.
Do you think LG plans on expanding in this corner of the market? Maybe producing other makeup products that are psoriasis friendly?
We do! We have two other baked foundations – Double Take Baked Full Coverage Foundation and Baked Balance-n-Glow Foundation which has similar properties to Baked Balance-n-Brighten.
We feel confident they’ll also receive the seal of recognition from NPF.
