Setting New Years Resolutions With Psoriasis

With every new year, most of us make resolutions. Are you within the majority and set a default resolution to lose weight?

I set that resolution every year and every year I fail. Sure, I may lose five to ten pounds but they always seem to find their way back.

Psoriasis resolutions for the new year

Of course, there are many resolutions to make and choose from. I thought it may be helpful if we start a list. Have you given thought to a resolution that is not the standard? If so feel free to list them in the comment section below so we can all find resolutions that are outside of the box.

I'm going to get the ball rolling. Hopefully, some of the suggestions will find a way of easing your psoriasis.

A resolution to stress less

I believe I just heard a few of you chuckle. To say you're going to stress less is easily said but not so easy to do. However, I just found out through stress causes my psoriasis to flare. I always heard stress could kill you. Now I guess I finally understand what they mean by that statement. It will be something I know I will have to work on each day as there are several different stress factors going on in my life currently.

Part of the problem will be to figure out how I can go about my day without letting those factors stress me out. I could probably talk to the doctor about medication but with my medical conditions having to take another pill is not something I am up for trying. Maybe I can be strong enough to do it on my own without the medication.

A resolution to prioritize self-care

I am the first to admit that I do not get much "me" time. My volunteer work is very important to me and gets me through each day. I also have a family that depends on me to take care of them. By the end of the day, I have spent little to no time on me. Reading used to be my favorite past time. Seems I never have time for that anymore.

I once attended a conference where it was stressed about the importance of taking time for yourself. It really did not hit home as much as it does now. You cannot spread yourself so thin that you forget you. Think about it.

It feels odd to say that I am going to spend time for me but right now, I have little to no chance to recharge which will make it a challenge to help others. Sounds easy right? Do any of you take the necessary time for you?

A resolution to stop overthinking

I'm sure I just heard a few of you chuckle again. I don't know about you, but my mind goes a hundred miles an hour a day. Anxiety is one of my biggest problems. The anxiety comes from overthinking because I feel like there are a hundred things I need to do in a day. Most times it's not but my mind doesn't think that.

Maybe it is an effect of the medication I take. Then again, maybe its something I put my own mind to do. It seems like, with psoriasis, the mind is the first part of the illness we have to deal with. Between the mental anguish and shamefulness, we feel our own minds in a whirl.

Then again maybe it is just the way I have dealt with it. Either way, I know I need to stop overthinking so my anxiety level will go down.

What are your new year resolutions?

So those are my three top resolutions for 2020. Do they sound like yours? If you set a resolution that is not the standard, please list it in the comments. Maybe we can set resolutions that will make improve our lives and our psoriasis.
