Scalp Psoriasis and Conditioner
So many of the scalp shampoos and conditioners for psoriasis dry out my scalp and hair. I don't know about you, but I have a hard time maintaining a good balance between dry skin and breaking hair with conditioned soft hair. Sometimes the conditioner is too oily and then my skin looks greasy and feels like it needs washed again. I feel like I am always struggling to have clean, healthy hair.
Trying to find conditioners that keep my skin less dry
Many of the shampoos that are used for the treatment of scalp psoriasis use drying agents like; salicylic acid, alcohol, tar, and tea tree. The psoriasis calms down for me when I use them but after continued use I notice flaky scalp, and itch. I find myself scratching and causing myself tears in the skin.
Through the 28 years of me having the disease, I have tried to find conditioners that would help keep my skin from feeling like a dry dessert. The first few washes, my scalp usually feels better. Smoother and silky strands of hair and no flaking skin after treatment. Once again with continued use I find that my scalp gets too moist.
Experiencing hair breakage
Before I know it, my scalp develops tiny round bumps. These bumps can be either painful or they are full of clear liquid that make touching my head nearly impossible. Trying to determine how much to use of these shampoo and conditioners is a trick that I have yet to master.
Another horrible aspect of scalp issues is hair breakage! Every time I brush my hair I lose at least one full hand of strands of hair. I feel like I am going to be bald soon. Mind you I have thick, long hair but it doesn't change the fact it's falling out rapidly. The likelihood of me going bald is highly unlikely, but the mental aspect of that is scary. I do have a friend who has had to deal with losing her hair from psoriasis. The toll it took was heart breaking.
There is no exact science
One of things that I dislike is finding my hair on my clothes, furniture and floors. I feel like a shedding pet. It is embarrassing. Worse yet try being a professional in the hospitality field. Even with my hair pulled back I still find it out and about on things it should not be on. My clothes the floor.

When I talked to my dermatologist, she told me there was no exact science and that I would find my best solution by trying things. For now my magic scalp care is medicated shampoo 2x a week and regular shampoo the rest of the time. I condition my hair from the ends to the base of my neck every shampoo. Once a week I shampoo and condition my hair and scalp all over.
This recipe has been working for the last year and a half. When I condition my whole head it is just enough to keep the flake away but not make my hair greasy. Do you have a routine for your scalp?
