PSO in my Ears

Is this usual? How do I treat this? Help!

  1. Hi again , so sorry to read that you're struggling with psoriasis in your ears. Unfortunately, quite a few of our community members struggle with this. It can be terribly uncomfortable. How far into your ears does the psoriasis go?

We're not able to offer medical advice (for your safety) but we do have a couple of articles that I'm hoping will be helpful. The first looks at some treatment options, towards the end of the article: https://plaquepsoriasis.com/living/ear-psoriasis That article also has some quotes from community members who have shared how they treat their ear psoriasis. The second article offers some tips for managing psoriasis in the ears: https://plaquepsoriasis.com/living/ear-symptoms-impact I haven't really used anything in my ears apart from olive oil drops (a recommendation from a nurse at my GP surgery). I hope others will stop by and share any remedies that they find helpful.

If you haven't done so already, we would definitely encourage you to reach out to your doctor with regards to finding a treatment - they will be best placed to speak to what is suitable for you. Hoping you can find something that will help. Please keep us updated if you can. Warm wishes, -Catherine, Community Moderator

    1. Hello , I can feel your pain on this one. Let me share this story real quick. I was probably in high school but every time my teacher would speak, it was muffled. I was straining to hear her. She sent me to the school nurse who told me I needed to take better care of my hygiene.

I told my mom something was wrong with my hearing. I was taken to a doctor. The flakes from my psoriasis had attached to the wax in my ears, which the doctor said was a good thing. Long story short, he got out a big ball of wax and scales. It hit the pan like a rock!!

Yes, is right you should reach out to a doctor to care for the ears. But you can try and control the flakes. My doctor had me use antifungal dandruff shampoo which did help. I was given steroid drops. We are all different, it might work for me, but not you.

Keep us up to date on your progress. Diane (Team Member)

      1. , that reminds me, I do rub any excess coal tar shampoo onto my ears when I'm washing my hair and that does seem to help. I don't ever put the shampoo or suds into my ears, but I'm sure some does get into them! -Catherine, Community Moderator

    2. Hello , It's so funny that you mention the suds getting into your ears. I remember a doctor saying this to me at least 40 years ago, that it was okay for this to happen, but don't put anything in my ears. Thanks for sharing. Diane (Team Member)
