Managing Psoriasis In The Armpit Area
Managing psoriasis in my underarms has been quite the journey for me and others as well. It has been filled with plenty of difficulty. But I am managing a few strategies that help. I will share my experience that might help others dealing with the same issue.
When I first got psoriasis in my armpits, I was shocked and frustrated. That area is very sensitive, and the extra friction from moving my arms just made the irritation so much worse. The redness, itching, and flaking were very uncomfortable. This was also humiliating at times. I knew I needed a solution to get it under control.
Seeking my doctor's advice
I went to a dermatologist to see what I could do to get this under control. They made sure that the symptoms in my underarms were indeed psoriasis and not anything else. It looked different than my other psoriasis. This was major for my healthcare team to help me to get the right treatment.
My doctor advised a topical steroid cream clearly for the sensitive skin areas, and it was a key part of my daily routine then. Using the cream daily was necessary, but I had to be careful not to use it too much. Overusing steroid cream can thin the skin, which is especially sensitive to areas like the armpits.
So, I followed my doctor’s advice carefully and applied the cream sparingly. Another big change I made was changing to soft personal care products. Regular perfumes and deodorants often have severe chemicals and fragrances that can provoke psoriasis. I switched to a nonreactive, fragrance-free deodorant made for sensitive skin, and this small change made a big difference in reducing irritation.
Making some lifestyle changes
Make sure to pay attention to your clothing. I begin wearing loose, fresh fabrics like cotton to reduce friction and let my skin breathe. Tight clothing, especially fake materials, appears to make the symptoms worse, so I have tried to choose my clothes more carefully.
Keeping the affected part clean and dry is also a very important step. A lot of times I made sure to wash my underarms using a mild, fragrance-free soap and pat them dry with a soft towel. Moisturizing after washing was also something important to do. I used a soft, fragrance-free cream to keep my skin hydrated without blocking my pores. Controlling stress became a crucial part of my overall healing. This can play an important part in worsening my condition. To control my stress was important and for that, I started doing mindfulness practices like meditation to calm down. It not only reduced my stress but also helped in my overall health.
