What Do You Wear To A Funeral To Cover Your Psoriasis?

Psoriasis comes with many challenges. Stress is a big trigger for flares. This week I will face a lot of stress. A week ago, we lost my brother in a tragic tractor accident. His funeral will be this week. When my mom passed it was winter, so it was easy to cover up the plaque psoriasis. I was able to wear a dress with boots that covered any problem areas. However, here in Louisiana, we are still reaching temperatures in the 90's with high humidity. That type of heat does not make it conducive to wear boots. I'm sitting here trying to figure out my wardrobe so I can attend his services.

I won't be worried about who can see my psoriasis

When I was first diagnosed, I would always wear clothes that would cover as much of the psoriasis as I could. However, once the psoriasis got widespread and impacted my hands it made it impossible to cover those. There are horror stories I could tell about comments I received. Even though my hands and most of my body are clear I do still have active plaque psoriasis patches. When I am around other people, I try hard to make sure those areas are covered up. I no longer wear open toe shoes because that is one area of concern. Another area is my left ankle which means I do not wear dresses either. I'm sure you are thinking by now that I should just wear pants, and everything should be fine. That might be true except for the fact my ankle psoriasis cracks and bleeds.

I already know I am going to be an emotional mess the day of the service. There is no way I am going to be worrying about the potential of blood being on a pair of socks. I can wear dress pants with tennis shoes but just like with regular jeans the pants ride up when you sit down. Wearing them longer is not an option either because a fall would do me so much worse. I have psoriatic arthritis as well. Maybe it is my mind being all over the place since the news, but I cannot think of a good solution.

Flares are enough to worry about

I can say in my twenty-plus years of having psoriasis I have never had to deal with racking my brain over what to wear. Especially trying to figure out clothes that I don't have to be self-conscious about at a funeral. Have you ever dealt with a similar situation? Do you have a special set of clothes that you can wear to any occasion that you do not have to worry about? The flare alone that is coming because of the situation is enough to worry about without clothes being an issue. I wish they would find a cure for psoriasis so that none of us ever have to worry about things like this especially at a very difficult time.

Any suggestions that you can offer would be good so that my future self doesn't have to worry about this anymore.
