Do You Experience Leg Weakness?

There are days that I am just walking and my legs just give out. This is a scary feeling. Has this happened to anyone else? We would like to hear from you. Diane (Team Member)

  1. Yes, I have. I have especially felt weakness in my knees. It is scary when I go up steps, and they get wobbly. It can also happen walking on a flat surface. I use my cane when feeling particularly wobbly, which has been a coming to. Outwardly revealing my disability was hard initially. Now I own it.

    1. Hello , Thanks for chiming in. I have had this leg weakness for a very long time. Like you said, it's hard to reveal a weakness. I went years hiding my condition. I went to see a therapist years ago. I had very severe psoriasis, covered from head to toe, but could hide this and the pain very well. I was told I was crying on the inside and smiling on the outside. This was definitely me.

You always hear that saying - I had to find someone like me. I thought I was the only one dealing with this. When I started joining communities and speaking up - I realized I had a tribe. Yes, I'm with you, I own it now. The steps scared me too now. Do you try to hold on to the wall as you are going up them? I would like to hear more about your journey. Diane (Team Member)

  2. I appreciate online forums like this, . They help me not feel so isolated and alone when I am struggling. I especially love hearing from a woman of color, you. Our voices are not at the forefront of these conversations as Black women. When I go upstairs, I hold on to the wall or railing; my leg can sometimes buckle unexpectedly. I also make sure not to carry anything very heavy up the stairs; I ask my kids or hubby for help. Thanks for sharing and posting such insightful points and poignant questions.

    1. Keep using your voice; it helps. And it encourages me to share my story too. 🥹

  3. Hi. The doctor recommended physical therapy and it has helped.

    1. Hello , So happy to hear that physical therapy worked. How long have you been doing this therapy? Thanks for sharing. Diane (Team Member)

  4. I have 30 visits per year with my insurance so I do it in 2 stints of 15 twice per year. One in the summer when I am on vacay and anothet in the winter when the cold irritates me. I try to do PT and OT on the same day and that can count as 1 visit.
