Does Stelara increase the risk of COVID-19?

Stelara injections were a very effective treatment for my plaque psoriasis for years. However, when COVID-19 became a pandemic, I decided that suppressing my immune system might be fatal, so I stopped the injections.

9 months later, my psoriasis has gotten really awful. I have been searching online for any studies about whether Stelara increases the risk of COVID-19, but can't find any data whatsoever. Any suggestions?

  1. Hi , I'm really sorry to read that you are suffering with your psoriasis at the moment. I think a lot of us have been wondering about our medications and the pandemic over the past few months.

We aren't able to provide medical advice (for your safety), but I did want to link you up with a couple of articles from our sister site, which I hope will be of some help: https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/living/biologics-covid/
https://psoriatic-arthritis.com/news/medications-coronavirus/ I hope anyone who has personal experience with this will stop by and share with you.

Have you had a chance to discuss this with your dermatologist? They would be best placed to advise you on this. Please keep us updated on how you're doing if you can. I hope you are able to get some relief soon. Warm wishes, -Catherine, Community Moderator
