What’s The Difference Between Eczema And Psoriasis?

If you or someone you know is dealing with itchy, flaky, painful skin for the first time, you may be wondering if it is psoriasis or something else.

I have had psoriasis for decades. I have psoriasis, but they got diagnosed with eczema. What are your thoughts on this? We would like to hear more from you. Diane (Team Member)

  1. I experienced quite a few trials when my child's doctor quickly told me she had eczema. But the frequency, placement, lotions, and creams we were using just weren't doing the trick and the itchiness bothered her to tears. One concern specifically and cause for her psoriasis diagnosis was the discoloration in my daughter's nails. That cracked the code for us to get her in the right direction with the right treatment. -Latoya (Team Member)

    1. , like , I believe my mum came up against a few doctors who quickly decided that I had eczema as a child. Thankfully we had my grandad who was a doctor and also had psoriasis, so we always knew what I was dealing with (even if the doctors didn't!).

For anyone curious, we have an article which looks at the differences between psoriasis and eczema: https://plaquepsoriasis.com/clinical/difference-between-atopic-eczema-and-psoriasis Sometimes a biopsy is necessary and can help the doctor distinguish between the two. Here's some more information on biopsies and psoriasis: https://plaquepsoriasis.com/diagnosis-confirm-test-biopsy-rule-out Great topic, Diane! Warmly, -Catherine, Community Moderator
