Is There A Link Between Psoriasis And Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease?

Psoriasis is related to some digestive disorders that are also autoimmune diseases. It seems that psoriasis is linked to so many things.

What is something that you have that can be linked to psoriasis? We would like to hear from you. Diane (Team Member)

  1. , yes, it does seem like psoriasis is linked to so many things! For anyone curious about the link between psoriasis and inflammatory bowel diseases, we have a great article on this topic: https://plaquepsoriasis.com/crohns-inflammatory-bowel-risk-link I haven't been able to find any information linking psoriasis and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), but I'd be curious to hear if anyone else has/has personal experiences with this.

I actually believe I gave myself acid reflux a few years ago. I was taking my methotrexate at around 9pm every weekend and had to have it with a rather large snack. I think eating that close to bed time and then sleeping with a full stomach lead to me developing acid reflux. Full disclaimer, I didn't see a doctor about this as it was in the peak of the pandemic. I ended up moving my methotrexate to 6pm with my evening meal and then not eating again after that. I also did an "acid watchers" diet for several months and that really helped calm everything down. I no longer experience the acid reflux symptoms and I hope it stays that way ! Do you have any digestive disorders, Diane? Warmly, -Catherine, Community Moderator

    1. , that sounds awful! My mum has had it really badly like that for quite a few years now. Really horrible for those who have to deal with it long-term. So did the medication help you get this under control or was it something else? I hope you never have to deal with that again. Hugs! -Catherine, Community Moderator

    2. Hello , thanks for chiming in. The medication did help and I was able to get off of it. I hope it never comes back either. Diane (Team Member)
