Psoriasis/Psoriatic Arthritis affecting weight?

Has anyone else had trouble with their weight since being diagnosed? I have had PsA since the age of 10, with no visible psoriasis. However, in the last ten years, my PsA has gotten extreme and my Psoriasis are severe. I am still trying to get an appointment with a dermatologist and rheumatologist. I have noticed tho, that I cannot seem to lose any excess weight. I have changed my dietary habits. Taken up walking and biking. Even tried the keto diet. Nothing works. In fact, I've gained weight. And alas, it's not the kind of weight gain from losing fat and gaining muscle.(i wish.!) I've read about metabolic syndrome being associated, but I've never heard of it from anyone else. Could this be my problem?

  1. Hi , thanks for reaching out. It is a great question. While I hope our community members will chime in with their personal experiences, I wanted to send over an article from one of our advocates. In this article, she says that research has revealed that having psoriasis can put your body through depression, weight gain, and other risks linked with autoimmune diseases. I am glad you are trying to get an appointment to see a doctor, do they have a long wait list? I can understand your frustration, you are not alone. Please keep us posted on how you are feeling.

    1. I don't think that there is a direct relationship. However, there might be some psychological effects that come with having psoriasis.
