Being Aware of Adhesives While We Remodel
My husband and I have been remodeling our home for a while now. Our current project is remodeling our bedroom. There is one big window in our room and a smaller one. Both of them have been damaged from leaks as well as it damaging our walls. Both windows have been removed with one new insulated window now in the place of the big window. We decided to eliminate the small window entirely. That meant the wall had to be closed in and new paneling put in its place.
While I am excited at the way the bedroom is coming along, I also must be careful in everything I do. Living with psoriasis for so long the thought of any infection is always in the back of my mind. I had an infection in the past and I never want another one.
My hands are a serious issue
One of the areas that I have active psoriasis patches on is my hands. Both hands were horrible for so long. Lucky for me the first biologic I got put on healed my hands. While it did not clear the other 80% of the plaque coverage, I was grateful it cleared my hands.
For years they have been clear that is until last year. I went through a really stressful time, and it caused my psoriasis to flare. Guess where that flare happened? You guessed right if you thought my hands. I can’t tell you how much that upset me. I have such vivid memories of people saying disgusting things about how my hands looked at the time. It still lives in my thoughts to this very day.
Paneling our room
Back to our remodeling and needing to put up new paneling in our bedroom. If you have ever seen a piece of paneling, then you know it’s a two-person job putting it up. The type of paneling we chose calls for us putting adhesive on the back of it before putting it on the wall and using nails to reinforce it being in place. Herein lies the danger in it for me.
I must be very careful that I do not get that adhesive on my hands especially on those psoriasis patches. It makes the project more difficult. Thankfully my husband is understanding of my psoriasis condition and patiently waits on me to get a proper grip on the paneling. I am proud to say so far things have gone well. We are over halfway done with paneling the whole room.
I'm grateful, but aggrivated
While I am grateful that I can help get the paneling job done, I must admit I am aggravated at the same time. Why does psoriasis always have to present some kind of problem. 20 years of living with psoriasis I wish I was totally clear of psoriasis but unfortunately that has not happened for me. Because the psoriasis is back on my hands, I must be careful of so many things.
While my mind is stronger than it was when the psoriasis first started it still makes me struggle mentally at times. This would be one of those times. I guess I will feel better once the project is done and can enjoy the way our bedroom looks now.
