Have You Ever Had Psoriasis On Your Tongue?

It's not only on my tongue, but my lips also. I'm having a really bad flare and started a new biologic along with Methotrexate. This has never happened to me in the past 60 years. I did call my doctor who told me to stop taking Methotrexate as this could be the problem. Has anyone ever had this problem before?

We would love to have your thoughts on this. Diane (Team Member)

  1. Hi Diane, I take MTX (~ 3 years) & I suffer from time to time ~ three monthly, with Pso on my lips & in my mouth, so far no apparent manifestation on my tongue. I would suggest as no two people are biologically the same my uniquenesses helps out on this.

    1. Hi Diane, in answer ti your last query, yes I take 20mg of MTX every week followed the next day with 5mg if Folic acid.
In my opinion the MTX is a waste of time as, according to the usage guidelines, my Pso should be in remission.
I keep taking MTX, for now, to ensure I'm following the Rheumatologist recommendations to the letter, as in my previous visit he gave out strong undertones of Gaslighting. That really annoyed me, so I recommenced my daily diary (of my Pso & PsA manifestations) & gave a précis version to him at the outset of my consultation prefacing it with a statement along the lines I'm an Electrical Engineer (retired) I always kept a daily diary if my activities etc. to ensure my actions, if called into question, could be substantiated. I felt stating my formal qualifications (which should have no bearing whatsoever) should clearly show I am not in any way a hypochondriac or falsifying my symptoms & their impact. I sensed it 'pulled him into line' so to speak.
      Time will tell....

    2. Hello , I understand very well about gaslighting, so I get it. I lost count of how many doctors told me my pain was in my head. That's another whole story. I'm so happy that you stuck up for yourself, but it's so sad that we have to prove our credibility, just to get some respect. I'm so happy to hear that you are well-organized and on top of this.

Let us know how things go. Oh, by the way. I was diagnosed with psoriasis at 5 years old, but it took 25 years to get a diagnosis of psoriatic arthritis. Sad isn't it? Stay in touch. Diane (Team Member)

  2. Ouch, ! I wonder if your doctor told you to stop the methotrexate because it can cause mouth sores? Are you taking folic acid alongside it? I have thankfully not had psoriasis on my tongue so far. I do have some dry, pink skin that flares up in the corners of my mouth every time the seasons change (which happens to also be when my psoriasis becomes the most itchy), but I don't know if this is psoriasis. For anyone who's curious, we do have the following article on oral manifestations of psoriasis: https://plaquepsoriasis.com/clinical/oral-symptoms I hope you can get some relief, Diane. 1. Oh no, . Sorry to hear that. The lips can be so sensitive. I wonder if you could ask a pharmacist for some options for managing this? I definitely hear you on the doctors and the water intake comments. I don't know why it's so hard for people to believe that we drink enough water! You're welcome to share the photo if you feel comfortable - I think we are all used to seeing these sorts of things on our own bodies with the psoriasis.

My day's going okay, although I'm still in that frame of mind from Christmas/New Year, where I don't really know what day it is or what's going on haha. How are you doing today? Hoping your lips are feeling a bit better. Hugs! -Catherine, Community Moderator

    2. I hate you're going through this. I have had to deal with sores on my lips as well and it can be embarrassing to face. Do you have anything you can use to help remedy this? -Latoya (Team Member)
