Nervous about Biologicals

Hi. I would like to begin biologicals but I'm nervous about the side effects. Do these side effects last even once you stop taking it? And do I have to take it forever or the progress will go away? Can't I just take it once and it will improve it forever as long as I take care of my skin after that? Thanks.

  1. Hi thanks for reaching out. While I hope our community members respond with their personal experiences, I am going to share some articles that I hope can help you. I can understand your concern about starting new medication and its side effects. Biologics are maintenance medications, which means they need to be taken over a longer time to have a full effect. They work by interfering with specific substances in the immune system to reduce or better regulate the inflammatory responses that cause psoriasis symptoms.

Here is an article with further information on biologics: https://plaquepsoriasis.com/treatment/what-are-biologics

I am also sending you a few articles from our advocates about their experience with biologics and their side effects:

Deciding whether or not to go on biologics is a personal decision and one that you should be fully knowledgeable about. I am so glad you are reaching out and advocating for yourself. Jill, team member
