Safe Spaces to Learn: Biologics

We know how valuable learning is to our community. We have lots of great information in our articles, but we also want you to learn from each other! This is a safe space to share what you know and learn from others. Ask a question, share an experience, or help a friend in the community.

Here we are going to talk about Biologics.

If you want a refresher, here is some information on biologics: https://plaquepsoriasis.com/treatment/what-are-biologics.

  1. Got my first shot of Skyrizi a week ago. Because I was having a psoriasis flare and an autoimmune flair, I started Plaquenil two weeks before. My psoriasis reached a very severe level five days after the shot most likely from Plaquenil. Any input?

    1. Hi , so sorry to read about everything you have been going through lately. I hope others will chime in with their experiences here but, unfortunately, anti-malarial drugs like Plaquenil can trigger or aggravate psoriasis. The following article talks a little bit more about this, alongside some other common triggers for psoriasis: https://plaquepsoriasis.com/what-is-psoriasis/triggers-causes-flares Have you been able to check in with your doctor about this? They may want to reassess your treatment plan.

Hoping everything calms down for you very soon, and that you can find the relief you deserve. We have heard lots of good things about Skyrizi from the community here. If you're interested in connecting with others who are on this treatment, please feel welcome to browse/chime in on the following forum discussion: https://plaquepsoriasis.com/forums/anyone-tried-skyrizi

  2. I had 2 doses of skyrizi and have yet to see any improvement. How long does it take?

    1. Hi , thank you for reaching out here. The period of waiting to see if a medication is going to work can be very challenging. It can, unfortunately, take a while for these systemic medications to kick in.

I don't have personal experience with Skyrizi, but I was able to find the following article, which states that in clinical trials, 75% of people had psoriasis-free skin on 90% of their body after 16 weeks: https://plaquepsoriasis.com/medications/skyrizi-reviews-how-well-it-works-side-effects We all respond differently to these things and sometimes it takes more or less time to see results. It might be worth taking a look at the following forum discussion on Skyrizi too, as lots of people have shared their experiences there: https://plaquepsoriasis.com/forums/anyone-tried-skyrizi

Are you due to check back in with your dermatologist at some point about how you're getting on? Warmly, -Catherine, Community Moderator
